Knowing they would not be attacked, they should have cleared out the Restaurant Supplier of food. Buy a manual or use the solar generator he bought as the power to pump out tanks at gas stations to supply gasoline for the next 12-18 months with stabilizer. With that time line they could pick up medical supplies (especially masks 😷, entertainment from books to movies. He could build out his library. They could use a tow truck to move cars out of the way. Add additional solar panels. They could contact other survivors and acquire a ham radio system. Most airborne illnesses do not last forever. It sounds horrible, but killing and burning the infected could start clearing the illness. The possibilities were extensive, only limited by their skills for the first year and electrical energy afterwards. With enough power they could run electrical cars for years.
