Our protagonist made decisions based on facts, not emotions. That alone saved his family and his friend.

When Ray said people with a security camera had enough supplies to protect, which meant they had enough to share, I got chills. When the saint wife decided to share supplies she opposed and did nothing to help gather, I rolled my eyes. When husband and wife and Ray decided to go back for Jeff and his family, I gritted my teeth. Not only did they leave the daughter and brother vulnerable to attack, but they traversed through the same roads and hostile conditions that they left early to avoid. Compassion is great, but weigh it against the risks. Gosh, and poor Dennis. All the ridicule and disrespect he endured over the years and now reduced to a minor character.

I would have told wife that the guilt trip was not going to work and she wouldnt have believed me. Plus,why put plywood up if they were going to leave.
