Ferridday is about 5-10 minutes west of vidalia, not twenty minutes east. Natchez is east.

Houseboat on the Mississippi river is semi safe, until fuel runs out, loose barges, river pirates, floods, or dam failures; however there are other rivers and you can tow a skiff or small boat, fish and even grow food in planters or pots.

Being from Louisiana, hearing the mispronunciations for Atchafalaya and Vidalia, etc. are funny. Also, I'm not aware of a Route 65. I go to vidalia twice a month for court, and the closest I can think of is highway 61, The Blues Highway, that runs just across the river through Natchez and up to Memphis.

There are whole groups of people who live their entire lives on the water, most notably the "Sea Gypsies" of Indonesia and the Marsh Arabs of Iraq. In prehistoric Europe, the Celtic peoples built crannocks - houses built over water with a defensible walkway to dry land. People also built communities in marshlands where it would be difficult for enemies to get to them.<br>I can see how living on water would help preserve life during an outbreak or apocalypse. The trick is going to be storing enough food, so hunting/fishing/foraging skills would be absolutely necessary, not to mention having a way to grow things like greens and herbs in planters on the decks or attached to the rails.
