She knew banks a n d bankers can't be trusted, the depression was a time that flaunting riches could get you killed and the government itself robbed citizens, not the ones in mansions but the average less than wealthy people that were told to invest in gold were the people they robbed of that go l d they told them to buy because it was safe.<br>Collecting everything was something that many did during the depression and for generations after. <br>The filth was probably from mistrust and age. I don't find this extremely strange at all, not if you know history
