  It makes sense the objects of John's affection would see him in a different light. Just the fact that he never allowed his family to grieve the oldest girls says a lot about his controlling nature.

  Seems like a double tragedy to me, first they die then the significance of their existence is denied them, at least the boy was properly mourned.

  The story of reincarnation aside, I'm torn between being shocked and unsurprised that someone with connections would walk free after killing 3 children in a reckless driving incident.

  The twins' nervousness around streets and cars could have been picked up from their parents. They could have given unconscious cues the kids picked up on to be careful.

  It's a little mind boggling to me that they didn't believe the woman who killed the 3 children should be punished just because they believed the girls had been reincarnated. Like, even if the kids hadn't died, you should still be punished for running over 3 kids with your car.

  I doubt the other children in town kept quiet when talking to the twins. They probably found out about their sisters and the accident while still quite young.

  I'm being distracted by the fact that a milkman can provide for an entire family and still have enough left over to move and start a business. The economy was really different back in the 50s

  The accounts from the surviving twin is probably the most reliable one. I can imagine the boys grew up resenting their father a lot. It must be very difficult for boys to lose their sisters like that, see no mourning from their father and then the new twins get all this attention; where did that leave them...

  I believe there’s a possibility of reincarnation but an obsession like the dad had just leads to not grieving properly and to treating new children like a replacement for lost children and not giving them the chance to be their own individuals. And that makes it that much more heartbreaking to me.
