  Fun fact: as a four decade Protestant, it was actually my Mormon friends, in sincere attempt to convert me, that put me on the path to Catholic conversion (to be completed this coming Easter). Their arguments rightly point out that the Catholics compiled the Bible and formed the church. However, the biblical arguments for the continued preservation of the church are sound. Once I started reading Catholic teaching with an open mind I fell in love and will not turn back.

  Honestly, I found this aggravating, as Jacob repeatedly says he relies on "history" without providing much history. Sure, we know that disputes and heresies were part of the early Church history - it's true of any period of Church history. Jacob didn't provide any historical evidence that suggests any catastrophic break of central authority that apparently is necessary for this great apostasy. He shifted definitions and sort of dodged all over the place - it was like nailing jello to a wall. I don't think he is a good spokesman or apologist for Mormonism, as he seemed weak and shifting - not a good look.

  So essentially, Jacob begged the question in order to justify a bait and switch on what the topic was, and banked on getting away with it because it fit into his opponents' personal beliefs.

  &quot;there&apos;s only so much time in a debate&quot; idk maybe Jacob should have used his time to outline the argument he clarified in this discussion (or even just lay it out once) rather than wasting it on throwaway lines about the Marian dogmas and sexual scandals hundreds of years after the apostles
