What's one journaling "rule" you've been following that you figured out was actually getting in the way?

I'm on the younger side compared to most of your viewers, and one thing I've noticed is that people on the older side (no offense) always have much better journal advice for me than younger folks. Young people are so caught up on productivity or changing your life, it's so refreshing to see you journal just because you like it. Keep going, your videos are great!

I threw all the "rules" away and found the freedom to just journal. I have one notebook. Thats it. I write something in it every day. Might just be a grocery list.

Had a teacher back in 1985 that required we keep a journal for a school trip. Been keeping it ever since. Off and on but constant, 41 years. It's fun to look back.

Parents and teachers should get children interested in reading and writing in their early years. We need more educated citizens in our society.

You randomly popped up on my feed and boy am I glad you did. Your voice is very relaxing and your content is relatable and reassuring that my ugly journal is worth it.

Good point on not using journalling purely for negative therapy. I had a journal that evolved into a 'book of hate' and it didn't really do me any favours. It portrayed a dishonest hellscape of my early 20s when in reality it was ups and downs, like most aspects of life.

I have been keeping a daily journal since 2020 when our Historical society asked people to journal the pandemic. I journaled as a younger person but had a mom and sister who made it their mission to read it so quit. 2020 rekindled my love of journaling. I go through two A5 Leuchtturms a year and just about everything goes into it. My other journal is a Composition notebook, two pages glued together, for art, scribbling, gluing pictures into etc. I have no patience for transferring information so my Leuchtturm is a one and done. I've always been a writer. People would ask me what I write about. Anything and everything. It is sad that people think they have to have something flowery to say to give permission to themselves to write. If one writes enough, that stuff comes through. The trick is to sit down with one's self and be quiet, something society is trying to steal from us all. Don't let it.

I'm procrastinating because I've been thinking I need several different journals for different purposes, but I see the value in stitching together the entirety of one's life and thoughts in one place.

66 here, and journaling has become the only "hack" that has actually worked to slow my busy brain down. So glad to have found your channel. 😊
