RIP Egon Spengler/Harold Ramis. You were a True Ghostbuster.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife explains Ray's cameo in Casper (1995) and why he went alone to Friendship, Maine.

This is the Ghostbusters movie that those of us that grew up in the 80s have been waiting for. I don't know why it took so long for us to get it.

Egon isn't getting aggressive with Phoebe during the chess game. He's only just started to figure out how to move things without "feeling" them, and he can only perform very coarse movements. As the story progresses, his movements become ever more refined.

So, on the scenes with Egon at the end: Jason Reiman, the director and son of Ivan Rietman, the creator of the original, had met Harold Ramis' daughter on the set of the original ghostbusters when they were both kids. He had reached out to her and the Ramis family before doing this, told them his idea, and also told they would have final say in EVERYTHING related to Harold's scenes in the film. in the script, in the creation of the cgi model that would be used, everything. He wanted this film to honor his memory in the most respectful way possible.

HE also wanted this film to be a tribute to his dad, who had been on set often during shooting, to harold, to the franchise that gave him so many fond memories as a kid, and to everyone involved. and he succeeded. this film is so emotional for me, and can't help but cry everytime, even during this reaction. its so wonderfully done.

I love how even the special effects, despite being mostly cgi, was created to match the look of the effects in the original films. that slight be of jank at moments (like the gatekeeper and keymaster transformations for example) that perfectly matches the way they looked back in the day, but still a little cleaner due to higher resolutions.

It helps that this film was directed by Ivan Reitman’s son Jason.

Ernie was a small part of the original. Yet he was the only of the 4 to truly embrace his character. He never stopped being a ghostbuster. He never gave up. So his saving the firehouse and funding everything makes total sense.
