I’m sorry, my brain short circuits on that number: they risk their lives every single day they work. They make it possible for these hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of expeditions to happen and for so many people to make it up and down that mountain safely. And they’re only paid a few thousand per season???????? What. The actual. F@ck.

Great job covering this story. I really don't get what sense of accomplishment there is in climbing Everest when the Sherpas set everything up and you just have to follow the path they made, clipped into ropes.

I have little sympathy for "athletes" whose sport only works if others have to risk their lives for it, but who have to do so time and again because there are hardly any other jobs in the area and they are poorly paid to top it all off. 😮
