  I love when people discuss Victorian stairs. My house was built in 1881, the staircase is absolutely suicidal with a handrail only on the bottom half. The top four steps are like climbing a ladder with a ninety degree turn. I watched the inspector slide down them before I bought it, I've never fallen. Yet.

  It's funny to think that adulteration of things like food, cleaners, hygiene products, medicines and certain cosmetics still happen today. We are just now starting to really understand how far that adulteration goes, and how dangerous it is to the health of... Well... Everything.

  My mother in law was from Cuba and said in the early 1900s, people preferred to buy milk directly from the cow.  A man would come to your house with a cow and milk the cow in front of you.

  Has anyone ever heard of Col. J. W. Brittlebank? He was an inventor who did early work on keeping TB out of milk and developed early pesticides for flies. Later was chief of veterinary medicine at the Manchester University. Then in politics. Pretty cool guy, and my great grandfather ❤

  The Victorian era in western society was horrifying on so many levels. It's amazing our ancestors survived. But it's easy to see why they fought so many battles for change.

  The scenario is ongoing today with the big corporations: Victorians loved profit and would substitute real ingredients with cheap alternatives.

  South Africa had a serial killer in the Victorian era who killed two of her husbands and her son with strychnine and arsenic. Her name was Daisy de Melker (1886 - 1936)

  Stairs almost killed my husband while we lived in a basement apartment. His entire respiratory system was in spasm and he was unconscious. <br>I was immediately at his side within seconds, there were no delays. This is how quickly stairs can kill.<br>Moving his body saved his life, but the experience is burned into my soul. The horror has been impossible to forget.<br>Our house is only one level, it&apos;s small and there are only 3 patio stairs leading to the front door.

  &quot;The Mangle&quot;. When I was younger like 55 years ago, my father ran the web printing press for a local newspaper. As was his job to get the presses going very slowly at the beginning by starting the paper into the rollers, he managed to get his right index finger caught between rollers and it began to pull him in. Fortunately, my brother was there and hit the STOP button and then the reverse. At the hospital the doctors were able to reattach the flesh, muscles and tendons to his finger bones. He never got complete use of the finger again although he always thanked my brother and the Lord above for saving him.
