I have 'points' that allow me to trade them to stay in pretty much any resort in the world at any time I want. They're called 'dollars'

I never understood the appeal of a timeshare. Why would I want to waste my hard earned vacation time on the same place every year?

We got "scammed" like this recently in the Philippines. They invited us on vague terms so we knew from the start we would not spend a dime. They acted like we were missing out on a great opportunity, but we knew we just got a free dinner buffet.

As a kid we got a "free" breakfast with a timeshare salesman. We spent 3 hours in this restraunt because they wouldn't stop.

My wife and I were roped into a timeshare presentation in Las Vegas. Thankfully I work in Finance and she works in Real Estate. The sales guys were so incredibly slimy. One guy tried to make us feel bad by saying he was a veteran and this was his income. He tried to physically block our exit. We started recording him and threatening legal action, and only then did they let us leave.

The entire industry is nothing but predatory slimeballs. Good riddance to them.

The scary reality is timeshares are worse than a MLM.

8 minutes of thoughtfully breaking down the scammy tactics of timeshares, only to kick off an ad by saying "I truly think everyone can find success in [business]". That's a shame.

Recently stayed at a Hilton Vacation Club and got pitched. They offered 100k Hilton points to sit through it. I knew I wasn’t buying nothing but got a free breakfast and 100k points out of it. Any financially literate person with half a brain cell can see through this scam. 18k was the the cheapest package they had. I adked them to pull up destinations I would actually go to, but the timeshares are in dumb locations where people don’t want to go. The salespeople weren’t as slimy because they knew I wasn’t one of their typical marks. Walked away with 100k points and a full stomach. 10/10 would sit through again!

Why are the maintenance fees so high? 52 people paying $1400 a year is $72,800. What single room condo costs 72 fucking thousand dollars a year in HOA and maintenance costs?
