So funny how many guys start questioning their Nerd level during watching this lolol. No one ever mentions the extremely white Donny Osmond dancing his heart out behind AL. Always makes me laugh.

M.C. Esher or Maurits Cornelis Escher was a Dutch graphic artist who made mathematically inspired woodcuts, lithographs, and mezzotints. Despite wide popular interest, Escher was for most of his life neglected in the art world, even in his native Netherlands. He was 70 before a retrospective exhibition was held.

You're about to enter a huge rabbit hole. Al Yankovic has been doing this since 1976, and he has a huge catalog of work. He's had the same band forever (same three guys since the early 1980s), Rubén (the "new guy") joined in 1991 as a touring keyboardist. The thing about Al is that he keeps trying to top himself with every new album, and being the perfectionist that he is, he's done a damn good job of it.

Just a few more factoids about this person:
⇨ About half of his work is original compositions, which (in my opinion) are often even better than the parodies.
⇨ He is one of only a few artists (Michael Jackson, Madonna, U2, and Weird Al) to have had Billboard Top 40 hits in each of the last four decades.
⇨ He gets permission to do these parodies, even though he doesn't legally have to. The artists he parodies are in on the joke (with the exception of Coolio, which is another story entirely)
⇨ He has won 5 Grammys.
⇨ He once turned down a $5 million beer commercial deal because he didn't feel comfortable setting that example for his fans, some of whom are kids.
⇨ He plays the accordion. Like actually plays it. As a proper musician.

It’s so interesting to me to see that what was once considered “nerdy” has become trendy again. Most of what you’ve questioned were definitely once not considered “ok” in the mainstream.

Maybe it takes a Star Trek: The Next Generation fan to see why Earl Grey tea is nerdy.
Hint - it was one of Captain Picard's favorite ways to de-stress.

Weird Al is the parody goat. He has been in the business for 40+ years and he has won a Grammy in every decade. Some of his parodies have even been bigger than the original songs.

All of those things were considered EXTREMELY nerdy at the time this song was recorded.

He is known for the "Weird Al Bump" because his parodies inspire his fans to buy the original and bump up sales.

He gave her a surge protector because electrical safety is always sexy.
