  Your buddy in the 82nd is mistaken. ALL M4s in division were converted to M4A1 2015-2017. They all got the heavy barrel, H2 buffer, ambi safety-selector, full-auto and MA stamps XXXX out and stamped M4A1.

  I remember the first time I saw a M4 in person.<br>My unit had just arrived at Al-Taqqadum, Iraq, in Feb 2004, where the 82nd was located and we (the Marines) were RIPing with them.<br>A group of us were walking to the chow hall when we saw a small group of soldiers walking there as well.<br>There was a female among them with her M4 hanging down near her knees and I noticed that, besides the fact that it had a fancy Aimpoint optic, a PEQ-2, and an attached flashlight, it had a shiny sticker of a unicorn on the buttstock. We all had basic M16A2s and A4s with irons, and none of us had flashlights or PEQs - despite being issued NVGs, which we didn&apos;t have batteries for and had to buy our own at the PX as soon as we got to TQ.<br><br>We couldn&apos;t pass up the opportunity. We stopped them and asked their MOS - she replied that she was a Alpha 7320198 (whatever the Army uses for MOSs - don&apos;t remember). We asked what that was and she replied, &quot;Admin clerk.&quot;<br><br>So here we were, a Marine infantry company heading into combat along the Euphrates, with M16A2s with irons, and here was this Army admin POG with a brand new M4 with all the Gucci gear we couldn&apos;t obtain.<br><br>That&apos;s when I realized that we were the poor kids at school.<br><br>Edit: The first time I got to shoot a M4 was when I was issued one by Charlie Company, 3rd Group, in Afghanistan. Ironically enough, we were operating in a region where I wish I had that 20 in barrel of a M16 LOL

  I was issued a Colt M4A1 in the International Legion of Ukraine, replacing the various AK platforms I had before that. It felt great to have &apos;Property of the US Gov.&quot; rolled on the side, my tax dollars finally doing something to help me out, and the thing just ran! The AK is being phased out in the Ukrainian Armed forces by a domestically produced DI AR called the UAR-15, as well as by the CZ Bren 2. Keep up the good stuff, Jeff!

  On the qual range I want an M16, but for anything else I want an M4.
