Ned passed away in 2018 at the age of 96. Seeing what a lovely person he was and how he had such a passion for bikes, it doesn't surprise me he had such a long life.

The joy of bicycling involved several things: the joy of independent mobility at a faster pace than walking and the useful accomplishment of reaching one's destination in a fraction of the time instead of walking. Bicycling allowed for a change of mindset. Before, a citizen had to seriously consider whether he wanted to spend two hours walking four miles to the next village to visit relatives or accomplish an errand. But a bicycle enabling him to reach the next village in just 30 minutes or even less if there was a level, good road, made such considerations secondary.
