I agree. For me, it's more like the core changes is surfing a wave.

Should have started on the tonic at least for the first exercise. It sounds like a major 1 moving down to a flat 7 major. Also the tonic chord should be given before every progression. In an actual song the tonic is obvious through melody and harmony but in these examples where its just chords, any one could be considered a tonic depending on the context. Otherwise nice video, super helpful

That first exercise l heard sth like I b7 IV I and I got so confused😂, apparently it’s the same thing when analyze the 3rd chord as a tonic

I couldn't do either example and I've been playing music for decades. Thank goodness for lead sheets.

Pitch matching the root of the chords is so hard for me. I tend to rely on droning the tonic in my head over the chords and feeling where the tonic gets pulled to but hearing the root would be much faster.

That's really great 😊

I think the exercises may have been more beginner friendly if they began an ended on the tonic. I think ear traing with modal harmony is the best starting point.

I heard first exercise has the mixolydian three chord trick as used in Sweet Home Alabama, which is also what most others are hearing too. I do think ultimately the aim is to be able to recognise things without having to work things out, just like learning your times tables.
