&quot;you need a pilot to use auto pilot&quot; , that&apos;s what&apos;s happening. They are giving lesser experienced devs or non devs access to AI for coding. That&apos;s what&apos;s happening rn lol.

The thing I still think Linus is not appreciating is that LLMs decay even experienced developer&apos;s skills through their actual design. Always coaxing you to use them for just that tiny bit more than you initially intended. <br><br>I am a lecturer, aerospace engineer, and developer of over 12 years. I still fell into that trap... <br><br>Anyone is vulnerable to being a victim of the decay LLMs cause.

The finding out after fsck-ing around is always funny, but man, did the entirely-avoidable-fallout have to involve something as mission critical as the Linux kernel?

We literally starting to spread DDoS attacks beyond computers and now doing it to real humans.<br>It&apos;s really a DDoS or DoS:<br>- Send ridicoulous amounts of data to a maintainer (server in pc)<br>- Overload him with processing it<br>- See as the maintaner just gets sunk in all bug reports and refuses to process more due to overloaded state (as server goes down on the amount of requests)

LLM capabilities are one thing. The ethics of how LLMs exist is another. The evidence that the former is worth ignoring the latter is severely lacking.

This reveals a problem nobody warned us about. AI does not just write code it floods the review process with work that looks good enough to waste your time. That slows everything down rather than speeding anything up. Manav Golecha frequently touches on this shift in his content. He often notes that the biggest bottleneck will not be generating work it will be telling which work is actually correct. Great to hear one of the most respected voices in software lay out exactly where the real friction lives.

Weve decoupled development velocity from development ability, and feature velocity was always what the managers used to measure success. Additionally devs have been trained by the industry to also see velocity as the greatest expression of achievement. It might take a period of massive software failures occurring consistently and synchronously across the entire industry for us to wake up and see what a massive mistake we&apos;ve made.

Important Context: Back in July, Linus said, to all the warnings of the community that &quot;AI coding in the kernel isnt a Big deal. if it offends you, fork it, or walk away.&quot; As if everyone could have the skill needed to fork the Kernel.<br><br>he could have just banned it when he was warned about it, but nope.<br>he can still do the right thing, but now he has a bathroom to clean. tile by tile.

did we all forget what happened in the past when we gave interns and juniors IntelliSense and IntelliCode...

So wait. Linus was anti-AI in the beginning because it was flooding their bug reports and pull requests with slop. Then a few weeks ago he said &quot;AI is here so get used to it, or fork it yourself&quot;. Now we&apos;re back to AI is flooding Linux? What the hell is even going on.
