Ao Oni is that franchise where I put it in the Corpse party box. Please just stop, it was fine as a solo game, and now you're not just beating a dead horse....its not even glue.... you've somehow beaten it into atoms and back to life as a lich.

my idea for an Ao Oni game
Hiroshi grows up after the events of the first game and becomes a teacher. He then decides to go back to the mansion but doesn't plan to enter but finds 2 of his students entering in. He rushes to try to pull them out but gets locked in with them. So he has to try to keep his students safe as he goes through his trauma and finds his old friends but learns some information about the Oni's

Once again, I recommend this in almost every recent Ao Oni video, but not enough streamers are playing that game. Ao Oni R (by ungodly) is everything Ao Oni remake should've been. Actual story, actual depth for all characters, better gameplay and multiple endings, including the one where you exorcise oni.

Honestly this game wouldn't even be bad, if it didn't replicate the exact formula of the original Ao Oni, with somehow more predictable twists, the absurd random spawn rate, and having pretty much all puzzles just be a "go to here to find a code".

It also doesn't help much that the new stuff is just "new oni's" which barely appear, new dialogue that is barely new and most of it isn't well written, and Ai, which had a cool idea with the cellphone but didn't have much use other than the "oooo is she a oni or not?!?!" and seeing her silly stickers.

People tend to idealize Japan so much they forget that they also have sellout mascot horror franchises, and Ao Oni is one of them. Its got a series of books explicitly meant for literal 1st and 2nd graders, even. Its probably even more shameless than any western mascot horror.
