Just a shout out. I was crippled 3 month ago due to really bad stabbing medial hip pain, sometimes in the left medial hip, sometimes in the right medial hip, but always one or the other with really bad stabbing pain. I've been doing these exercises with and without leg weights, and I am pain free and have been that way for at least the last two months. I am so grateful. I figured life was going to be nothing but pain for the rest of my life. Now, that's only going to happen if i stop doing the required exercises. And that's not going to happen because I am allergic to pain.

This is ridiculous. I found this video yesterday and the sharp pinching hip pain I've been experiencing daily for more than 4 years basically went. It came back this morning, so I'm back to practise the exercises again. Thank you so much!!

After suffering from hip pain for the last couple of years that has steadily worsened, including so much pain sleeping at night that it was waking me up several times a night, I found this video about three weeks ago. After ONE DAY of doing these, I felt IMMEDIATE relief. And one day meant 5 reps each. That was all it took! I now do them nearly every day. I still have some hip pain, and pain in the groin, but it doesn’t wake me up at night anymore. Thank you thank you thank you!!!

I am a 63 year old male who has sat in a chair basically all of his working life and have been suffering from a sharp knife pain down my right buttock since about May 2023. After looking at so so so many videos and doing the suggested exercises from those videos for e.g. Piriformis, Sciatica and other possible symptoms, with no success. I went to see an Orthopaedic Dr who said I have weak lower back muscles, he provided me with Peripheral Magnetic Stimulation (PMT) for 20 minutes, targeting the muscles in my lower back and showed me some exercises to do, prescribed pain blockers for the occasional spasms and suggested an MRI to be 100% certain. I forwent the latter 2 and did the exercises he showed me, again with no success. I am getting pretty desperate, but will give your exercises a go, suffice to say, I really don't know what I have, but believe my issue is related to the muscles being weak as you and the Orthopaedic Dr say, so I will give your exercises a go and give you an update. Love your witty sarcasm, thanks for taking the time to help others like me. EDIT: When I squat all the way down and stay in that position for a while, and then get up, the stabbing disappears for a while, so it looks like stretching that/those muscle/s helps, but the stabbing does return later, just for the record. Update: Just gave them ago, pretty impressive, stabbing pain has gone, looking forward to doing them for a week solid to see if your method had broken the blade so to speak, another update in a week.

Hello mate. I want to appreciate you for these two experiences. I have had hip impingement for last two years, tried phisiyo and did exercises I felt minor improvement. Once I tried these two exercises my hip pain faded away and I don’t feel pain anymore. I bought FIX fix. But this particular exercises changed everything. I am so grateful. Keep up the good work. 👌

My walking / jogging routine came to a sudden stop when right hip sharp pain and achiness brought my walking and jogging to a dead stop.
I could barely walk to the bathroom or kitchen let alone walk or jog for exercise. Often there was a sharp unpredictable pain in right side of hip and right glute area.

My sleep was horrible and my eating habits followed suit.

I have a sedentary sitting desk job.
Pain became worse each time I got up from a sitting position at work.
Could barely straighten my spine completely when I got up from sitting and my limp was enough for co-workers to ask if I was ok.

Per Matt's video...
If I slowly raised my right leg as if marching, I couldn't lift my foot more than 2 inches from the ground without pain abd tightness in butt abd side of right hip ITB.

I did self-therapy using Matt Hsu's exercises.

Just a couple to start with 3 times a week.
Really, the first night I did these exercises, I felt empowered to improve my right hip/glute pain...that radiated to my right knee and calf at times.
My most comfortable sleep position was on my left side with a pillow between my legs.

Here are several of Matt's exercises I started with, using excellent form: neutral spine bending only at hip hinge (and knee as required):

. Standing very slowly lift right thigh in front with bent knee while contracting right glute muscles.
Then slowly lower foot to ground. Repeat, keeping hips neutral at all times.
Could only lift foot a couple inches off the ground.
Never lift fast.
(Could lift left leg higher than perpendicular to hip.)

. Clamshell abduction laying down on left side, hand on right hip to maintain both hips in alignment perpendicular to ground, keeping legs & feet together, knees bent.
Slowly open right leg, rotating from the hip while engaging right glute muscles.
Repeat.
Change the angle of the knee bend to find the most challenging position and hold the glute contraction for seconds up to a minute.

. Right lateral leg raise with straight knee while laying on left side, maintaining both hips in alignment perpendicular to the ground.
Be sure to lift right leg laterally from the hip very slowly while engaging right glutes as fully as possible and hold a few seconds to a minute.
Repeat.

. Forward body fold from hip hinge with knees slightly bent.

I tried many different exercises but stuck with the above ones to gauge and improve progress.

I worked at improving sleep awareness and quality since it is essential to recovery from everything.

Within 3 days of starting these exercises, plus standing at my desk a half hour morning and afternoon, I began to feel hope, much reduced pain, improved range if motion on all above exercises.
While standing at desk, maintained excellent posture and distributed weight evenly on both legs.

Deep breathing exercises is how I managed my stress levels during this difficult time when all I could do were these simple but hard exercises.

At the end of the first week, I walked at the park with high form awareness and a much shorter stride length.
During and after a 1-mile walk the first day in the park, I felt no pain.
The next day, I walked 2 miles, still maintaining short stride length and increasing step turnover cadence gradually to boost heartrate.

I focused on glute activation on my back leg with each stride.
This form requires foot plant under your center of gravity on mid foot to ball of foot.
I believe I'll have tremendous mindfulness of standing, walking, and running form for the rest of my life.

Overstriding is the key element in most running and walking injuries (not tremendous body strength or having the most expensive shoes, regardless of orthotics) unless you have a significant structural issue like a major leg length discrepancy etc.
Btw, my left leg is 3/4 inch longer than my right leg and my left foot overpronates.
This is life.

I found videos on the Pose Running Method, my new model for walking and running.
The most challenging part is to maintain awareness of form, shorten stride length, increase leg turnover to 180-195 per minute, posture, using gravity to help you fall.

I'm able to get heart rate to peak after 2 weeks pain free.
Of course it is 85 degrees out with 100% humidity right now and that helps the heartrate stay up.

Will continue Matt's exercises and training with Pose.

I'm a 71 yo female, former marathoner, still working as a software developer.

Thank you, Matt!
Your truth, skill and encouragement helped me to keep doing what I love!

No wonder I didn't have this pain until I stopped doing yoga a year and a half ago!!! Two weeks ago I decided to do yoga at home, and really saw how much my muscles had atrophied and have been very slowly gaining muscle strength back, but still was having pain. Now here is your video, that gives me the reason behind the pain and what to do about it. Thank you, THANK YOU!!!

Doctors are woefully undereducated. Chronic pain is the leading cause of disability and it's undertreated, misdiagnosed and often ignored by medical professionals. It's great that we have access to videos like this I just wish doctors would catch up
