Advent Large Loudspeakers with wood veneer cabinets. I got them for a high school graduation present from my parents in 1975.

It's usually a battle to get value for money.
Anyone who doesn't realise this, is going in unarmed.
There's very, very few products that hold their value.
There's even less that accumulate in value.

Harbeth - 'ES7' originally 'HL Compact' were fantastic!
Had my HL Compacts back in the 1990's for six years.
I love Rock 'n Roll at realistic volume levels & so I had to sell them & go with bigger floorstanders.

4:16 It's good to see real plywood still in use.
Plywood is inherently superior to MDF in the midrange.
Composites are even better.
Open baffle might be the best.

The ones that make me the most nervous, we’re actually not the early Fisher because that can still be rectified when dealt with properly, but it’s the mid to late 70s monster receivers that have these unobtainium parts and components inside and corrosive chemicals that destroy sucking boards. You’re talking to a person who owns a relatively rare late 1970s FISHER “studio standard” RS 1080 monster Receiver, 170W/2CH @8ohms that is in need of some minor repairs and restoration. it’s been hell trying to find this particular switch that was used for the three sets of speakers and two sets of headphones

I bought in 1971 a pair of Altec 893 B Corona 2-Way Bookself Speakers when I was working for them in the summer of 1971 making speaker enclosures in Anaheim California. I still have them today and they are still fantastic. Unfortunately it's not the same company today that it once was They built Voice of the Theater Speakers which goes for about $2,500 dollars today.

I do prefer cast frames for drivers for lowest audible ringing and superior thermal performance, but stamped steel frames are just as reliable mechanically except where physical abuse is expected, as in touring sound reinforcement. Stamped steel frames are not vulnerable to fatigue failure. In home hifi, the most common type of frame failure I have seen is of the glue that affixes the magnet structure. It's also worth mentioning that older vintage speakers may have alnico magnets that are vulnerable to physical and electromagnetic excesses and so may require remagnetization.

For 5 seconds, at 13:11 - 13:16 into this interesting video, while discussing the very good Magnepan speaker, the creator used a photo of the Sanders Sound System 10e speakers (a superior sounding, & bullet-proof, bipolar, electrostatic speaker). Not only are the Sanders ESL panels lighter and faster than the Maggies, but their proprietary design makes them the ONLY ESL driver warrantied for life! Ironically, the Sanders Magtech amplifier (with a voltage regulated power supply), also warrantied for life, happens to be very popular among Magnepan owners who value reliability, dynamics, and neutrality. Clearly, the Sanders ESL system should be near the top of this list, IMO...
