  As someone with significant members of my close family who&apos;re Vietnamese: yes, those jokes are racist. And yes, they&apos;re still funny.<br><br>There&apos;s a difference between being actually racist (you actually don&apos;t like someone because of where they&apos;re from) and playing with the idea of Western ignorance around Asian cultures esp. the fact that half of those racist jokes are actually playing with Chinese or Japanese stereotypes, the joke being partially about the joker&apos;s own ignorance, even though they&apos;re actually aware of it.<br><br>Mind you, I&apos;m British/Australian. Both of those cultures have a strong tradition of taking the piss: if someone knows you well and they&apos;re not saying something outrageously rude about you for laughs, they probably don&apos;t really like you. If they are and you do the same right back, you can be best friends. If they are and you get offended, then you can never be friends.

  the reason quebec is so jumpy i believe is because he&apos;s an iraq/afganistan vet, and it seems this game models realism so good it got him thinking he was back into uniform.

  What I found fascinating is just how much that conflict was grey on both sides. Ho Chi Minh was actually such a brilliant and patriotic man who got pushed pretty far to defend his country. He fought to make Vietnam independent for the majority of his life, first from French, then Japenese, then again French before Americans joined. He even at first looked for help in the West, especially from USA, but got ignored and brushed off so he looked for help from China. After that he still only cared about Vietnam foremost and played both sides so that Vietnam would never become truly communistic or like staunch ally. Add to that that south Vietnamese i.e. terrain that was richer with many more cities, supposedly &quot;good&quot; guys of the conlifct were incredibly discriminating and abusive, to the point of genocides, towards north Vietnamese who were seen as barbaric, dirty, poor farmer hicks. Honestly, Vietnam war at the deeper level is such a perfect example of how propaganda game is on point even in the west (especially given PR of many countries) and just how much it can warp your perspective
