  Currently reading it!!! Douglas Stuarts first two novels teared my heart in pieces and put it back like a mosaic, as I say...This one is a gift from my son for my birthday recently and it is slow paced, different than the others...Stuarts writing style is amazing. He is one of my favorite writers that I discovered in 2025!!! Cannot wait to continue reading today😊

  This is my favorite book I have read all year. It was soooo good. A perfectly crafted novel that I will think about for a very long time.

  I loved this book from beginning to end due in no small part to my own life journey.  I've read Stuart's other books and II marvel at his consistently outstanding writing.  Thank you, Eric.

  I am currently reading this novel. It is amazing. Douglas Stuart is an extremely gifted writer. Cal’s pain and John’s anger are palpable. The interactions between father and son brought to my mind the writings of Tennessee Williams, specifically “The Glass Menagerie” and the fragility of their relationship.There is an excellent interview with the author on Brett Benner’s channel “Brett’s Book Stack.”

  I saw Oprah's show a few days ago in which she talks to Douglas Stuart about John of John and was convinced right then to add the book to my tbr 😊

  Another member of The Booker Prize Book Club and I are about to read this together. We just read The Director together and it was a wonderful experience. My maternal grandfather was 100% Scots from the Hebrides. So I am very excited about reading this book with Hope.
