Eric, hi. I HAD to watch YOU watching the Pulitzer Prize announcements on Monday. I get such a kick out of your joy and enthusiasm over prize announcements! I get carried away right with you! You make it so exciting. I am always on the edge of my seat. Thank you for being so genuine.

I can actually read In Late Summer in the original language and I’ve been reading it since I saw it was shortlisted. The descriptions are just incredibly accurate to our history and culture and in original language they are so haunting, sometimes I’d just sit there not being able to process how the author could’ve taken this reality or a feeling and put it so brilliantly into words…

I just completed “The Things We Never Say” by Elizabeth Strout and I loved it so much. I find myself thinking about Artie and Edie and the conversations they should have had. Ms. Strout captures the human condition of “normal” life better than almost anyone. I handed the book to my sister today and told her there were no car crashes, murders to solve or other catastrophic events but just the challenges of living and loving flawed humans.

We agree on four of the six books on your list. Mercy Step was a no for me but I liked Kingfisher. The narrator’s life is overwhelmed, actually halted, by the terminal cancer of someone he loves. He has precious little time left with her and his tenderness with her is beautiful. Yet, she maintains distant from him. Michael doesn’t love the narrator but his love for the awful mother is very kind. Jess is maybe the only character that loves the narrator, yet he remains distant from her. Love in this novel shows itself that it lives where it lives and we shouldn’t judge.

Oh my gosh, Eric, you make EVERY book sound so fascinating, and your love of reading is contagious. What a nice experience to have read the New York City book aloud to your husband, and you're right, it's an incredibly expensive city to visit, but it's a place that definitely pulls me back. Thank you for everything you share with us on BookTube! ⭐⭐⭐

Thanks Eric, I had the Beast novel from Library but took it back; decided that I didn't want to read it. Had enough of all that with Flashlight which kinda bored me. The Mercy Step looks good as does The Kingfisher. Read Francis Crawford's A Bad Bad Place when you get a chance. can't wait to read The Guardian book. Sounds Great!
