I worked at a scrap metal warehouse and I came across a 36" trinitron flat screen from the 2000's. I asked my boss if I could have it (it was just big clunky e waste to him) I took it home cleaned it,plugged it in and it worked! First game I played on it was donkey kong 64 and my god did the color pop! I got component cables for my ps2 and it looks awesome!!!

Sony was so bizarre in the early 00's. At one point they were putting root kits on CDs and suing grandma's for pirating MP3s. They were putting out useless formats like memory sticks that nobody wanted. But then they were also selling the best CD player for pirating software. ALL AT THE SAME TIME.

I worked for Sony for 4 years. As an employee they really took care of us. Was a fantastic gig. I’m a pro photographer and use all Sony products to this day.

On the MiniDisc topic, I don't think you did it justice. Given that Sony had just created the DAT tape and before the US stepped in it had no copy protection (even for digital copies), I don't think it was about control. The format was made for on the go music you recorded yourself, the compressed audio was unavoidable because of how small the discs were, and the RIAA made them put copy protection on it. The format also didn't die, it had wild success in Japan and modest success in Europe.

I'm from Bulgaria - in the 90s our 1st floor apartment was robbed over a weekend when our family was away. The burglars had time to trash everything, go through everything and take whatever they wanted.
The 32" Sony Trinitron we had they put on the floor next to a sack they found, but it was so big and heavy that it didn't fit, so they gave up and left it there as the only valuable thing remaining in the whole apartment.

I remember my Dad bringing home two of the original am/fm only walkman radios. One for him and one for me. They were kind of silver/blue with the orange foam headphones. He used his for over 10 years until he died. That thing got him through endless hours of dialysis. The radio reception was amazing and could pick up baseball games from huge distances.

Yeah I had a 32"wega Trinitron. My house got broken into and a bunch of stuff stolen. They unplugged the tv to take it, but I think they tried to lift it and said f that and left it lol.

I was the executive director for a non profit that provided financially disadvantaged kids a computer for their homes. We depended on donations to refurbish and then place. My god, the amount of Sony Trinitron monitors flooded our storage rooms. Some I had to carry up 3 flights of stairs to get to the apartment that needed it. For Pete's sake they were heavy, but they were also beautiful in resolution.

I have not bought a new Sony product since the rootkit debacle. I did buy a used receiver from a friend, but as far as giving Sony a dime, I refuse. I carry the grudge of a crow.

First I heard of Sony was in 1955 in first grade (yes, I am quite old). The PTA gave our teacher one of those Sony pocket radios for Christmas. Us kids were slackjawed with absolute amazement of what we saw and heard that day! I think that may have planted the seed of my lifelong fascination with cutting-edge tech.
My first major Sony purchase was a 15" Trinitron tabletop TV. In 1974 due to tariffs(!) it cost around $425, and that was wholesale price from a friend, retail was over $500!

In the 1980s, Sony Corp. sued a Baltimore restaurant owner named Juana Evelina Resurrecion Robles-Florendo, who was known as "Sony," for trademark infringement. The electronics company sued her for using the name "Sony's" for her restaurant, alleging unfair competition and consumer confusion. The case was settled in 1987, and the restaurant owner had to remove all use of the name "Sony" from her business by early 1991.

In 1978 I was working for a local TV / stereo store. We delivered and unboxed a Sony Trinitron console to a client. Plugged it in and it worked perfectly, no setup required I said right there and then I will own one of these one day. It took me about another 8 years before I own one, a 28-inch which I unboxed on the dock, wrapped into the front seat of my Mazda 626 and drove at home across the city. I knew I was playing in the big leagues now!
