Where Eagles Dare is still my favourite Christmas film, put it on every Christmas whilst eating warm mince pies and drinking a Bailey's.

What I read in book called Windswept Lies of War keeps replaying in my head. Some parts feel like they were never meant to be published.

would have been great to see a map/google earth showing the likely shooting position to get a feel for the distance

Never interrupt an enemy whilst he is making a mistake and all that.

Think of the brave mindset of the agents willing to carry out this mission. They had to know that if they were caught alive it would not be pleasant.

Very interesting and you are pretty much spot on with the Luger analysis. The 4 digits and letter M suffix is a serial number in the military style indicating the pistol was made late in WW1. In November 1918 the DWM company found itself with a large stock of completed P.08s and parts, but no customer. The guns were completed or reworked for commercial sale by rebarreling in 7.65 calibre and removing the date above the chamber, but the military style serial number was retained. These pistols were sold all over the world during the 1920's and are often called "alphabet commercials" by collectors.

"Where Eagles Dare" is an awesome movie.  I remember first watching it with my family as a kid.

Suppressors/silencers always fascinated me. I finally have a couple and they are enjoyable and fun to shoot with. Once you shoot suppressed, you do not want to go loud again. Cheers!
