  The most amazing thing to me about the T34 is that the Soviets lost 35k+ of them and that they still came out ahead.

  The T-34 was the first Tank I ever got to see IRL up close and personal. I even got to crawl around inside of it. It was an old Cuban T-34/85 to be exact. This was around August of 2021.

  Tukachevsky was NOT the main architect of Deep Battle. That was the brilliant military theoretican KomDiv (Major General) Vladimir Triandafillov. His books on the topic were published in 1929 and 1931. He died in an air crash at age 37 in 1931. Tukachevsky was the main sponsor of Triandafillov&apos;s theories. As deputy commissar for defense, he arranged for their adoption in PU-35, Field Regulations of the Red Army in 1935. <br><br>BTW, Guderian took part in the German-Soviet miitary cooperation program visting the USSR in 1932. He was probaby familiar with Triandafillov&apos;s work. Deep Battle influenced his understanding of armoured warfare and Blitzkrieg tactics.<br><br>One too often hears the simplistic attribution to Tukachevsky, ignoring the seminal work of Triandafilov as well as the later contributions of Isserson, Egorov, and Uborevich.<br><br>The first large scale application of Deep Battle was at Khlkin Gol in 1939, orchestrated By Zhukov, Shtern, and Smushkevich.

  It is worth mentioning that many T-34s and other Soviet tanks were made in Czechoslovakia under a license after the war. These typically have much better welds and overall craftsmanship and interestingly feature some leftover German parts. These were then sold to third countries and with great irony got reimported to Russian Federation for ceremonial purposes a couple of years ago. So the T-34 you might seem on the Red Square during Victory Day parades is actually a Czech-built tank with German headlights that didnt serve in the war but was in Laos until 2018...
