Never seen a single player make such an impact on a team in sports history. From single handedly taking Boston from 29 wins to 61 wins his rookie year, to breaking his face and getting a concussion to advance in game 7 of the playoffs his final year. His passing was infectious and players hustled more because their leader and captain was diving into the stands for loose balls.
It was honor getting to watch Bird and Magic in the 80's which was by far the best era of basketball because it was played in its purest form. Thanks for showing the old heads respect, you got another follower.
LARRY FREAKING BIRD 🐐 🐐 🐐

It's been 34 years since Bird retired, yet these stories abut Larry keep cropping up all the time, year after year. A true testament to his greatness.

That 2 handed backwards pass Bird made to McHale in the paint that somehow he saw coming was a great play.

All through his b ball times high school and college critics said yeah but he didn't play against anyone! In college who else was 33/0 for their senior year? And who else was on the team? His rookie season he was the only addition to Boston and they went from 29 wins and last place to 62 wins and first in the east. 61 votes for rookie of the year vs. 3 for Magic

The true measure of respect, admiration.. is that we are listening to GROWN ASS MEN.. talking without an ounce of resignation in their voice about Mr. Bird. That's crazy. James Worthy.. seems to be a proud man, yet has NO problem talking about how Larry made him pee on himself! Think about that! Now, there's more to this.. how many players do w4 hear talk about how they wondered why it was so hard to defend Bird.. we hear them say 'he don't look fast.. he can't jump" and at the end of the game they are probably back on the bench, Birds got 38,12 & 9. Now, how many rookies cam3 into the league thinking that MJ was inferior? NOT ONE. My point being is that Bird was CONSTANTLY being tested.. he had to prove how good he was every year, whereas most rookies came into the league alr3ady fearing MJ. They wouldn't think they could beat MJ like they did bird. Bird got everyone's A game. N9w, maybe how I explained this doesn't make sense.. I'm sorry

At his peak, Bird was so much better than everyone else he had invent games within the game to keep himself engaged.
Even during practice, teammates tell stories that when Larry felt like it, he would just knock away their ball in the air with his and watch his ball go through the net,
just because he was far superior to everyone else.

Or when they played corn-hole in the off-season, he would just play for a while, but then when it came down to it, he would flip a switch and just go 4 in a row, 4 in a row, 4 in a row...
He just has that switch where his concentration goes to another level where he don't miss.

That shot in the finals against the lakers, every single person in that arena probably thought that ball was going in, even Larry himself was sure he had it.
You're a completely different animal when everyone in the league is shocked that you missed a clutch 3 point shot.
