You know what's kind of funny is that a lot of us Gen X'ers and Boomers were raised more by watching these guys.    ( not to say that our parents wwrent there for us because they were ) but, lets face it, we were called the latch key kids for a reason.   I know, personally, that I see a lot of my mentality that mirrors Bird.  Neither of my parents were "athletes " yet, i took his mentality in to games and in to my life in general.....   People like him were true role models.....

When Bird's hand was in the air as he won the third 3 point contest, look at his finger.

The interview of the story of Larry's foot infection was told by Red Auerbach.

I had my nose broke in the 9th grade, in basketball  practice. Had to go to the  hospital, and back at practice the next day. Dr wouldn't let me play. I got to play in the championship game. I wasn't the best player, but I got to play.

You can't compare Kobe to Bird. Kobe's injuries healed. Bird played seven seasons with a broken back that started deteriorating and was unbearable his last three seasons And, he also played his last three seasons with the back and after double achilles surgery. With no pain killers. No contest. All the best. He only played 12 seasons.

And throughout Larry’s career and injuries, no pain pills no steroid shots no addiction maybe a little Budweiser
