  Poland has always been a monarchy. There was no Catholic conquest of pagan peoples in Polish territories. In 966, Duke Mieszko I was baptized, which meant that the entire duchy adopted Christianity. Mieszko I&apos;s son, Bolesław the Brave, was crowned king out of recognition. A Catholic missionary, Adalbert, was in Poland; he set out for the north-east and was murdered there. Bolesław the Brave ransomed his body by paying as much gold as Adalbert weighed. This event determined that the European empires would recognize him as king. Adalbert is now considered a saint and is the patron saint of Poland. The Polish monarchy ended in the 18th century after Poland was taken prisoner for 123 years. He divided Poland between Russia, Germany (then called Prussia), and Austria. Russia and Germany have partitioned Poland several times. We regained independence in 1918, but only briefly, as World War II broke out (again attacked by Germany and Russia). After the war, we fell under the rule of the Soviet Union until 1989. There was no chance of restoring the monarchy with such armed attacks and the assassination of Polish elites. For Poland, World War II ended in 1989.<br>We never fought the Roman Empire. We always fought the Germans, the Russians, and the Ottoman Empire. These knights with black crosses are the German Teutonic Order, which murdered us en masse.<br>In 1543, you have the world&apos;s most famous Polish astronomer, Nicolaus Copernicus. He overthrew the geocentric system of the universe and wrote about the heliocentric system. The work is titled &quot;On the Revolutions of the Celestial Bodies.&quot; Already in those years, he discovered that the Earth revolves around the Sun. This remains true today. The film presents the most important dates in Polish history, as well as the most important figures and architectural landmarks that still exist today. It also intertwines art, such as famous paintings that were created, many of which are still preserved.<br>Poland had a union with Lithuania. We were called the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Our rulers were related. The dissolution of the entire union meant an attack by foreign powers on the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. And the dissolution of the already independent Poland also meant the aforementioned attacks by foreign powers. <br>Our coat of arms features a white eagle. It remains in use today in various forms. For hundreds of years, it has been a formal and informal symbol.

  Jeśli ktoś nie zna historii Polski choćby pobieżnie, nie nauczy się jej z tej krótkiej animacji. To raczej reklamówka na potrzeby EXPO, niż lekcja historii. Nie dziwmy się, że niezorientowani nie bardzo łapią o co chodzi.

  The bird is a white eagle.<br>The legend says, that the three brothers: Lech, Czech and Rus, were travelling the Europe, and at some point they stopped by a tree to rest. That&apos;s when Lech saw a white eagle, returning to its nest, with the setting sun as the backdrop - interpreting this as a positive omen, he decided to stay there, and created a settlement, which he called &quot;Gniezno&quot; (&quot;Nest&quot; in archaic Polish), which was the first capital - and the white eagle on a red backdrop became the sigil of Piasts, the first ducal, and later royal clan, which ruled Poland until around XV century.

  Poland is not a new country. It emerged in the 10th century and was not a union. From 1569 to 1795 there was the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, a dual state composed of the Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. At that time, it was the second-largest country in Europe after Russia.

  ‘Polska’ – Poland – is the everyday, shorter name of our country. ‘Rzeczpospolita Polska’ – the Republic of Poland – is the full, official name, rooted in the Latin res publica, meaning a republic, a community of citizens.<br>This video really shows how many times Poland had to fight for its place in Europe. From Mieszko’s baptism to Grunwald to Solidarity – it’s all about courage and survival. Thanks for such an awesome reminder of our history!
