  Mags sacrified herself twice…one when she volunteered for Annie (she was Annie’s mentor and she’s heavily traumatized (and she’s also Finnick’s gf). And when she let herself die so Finnick could help Peeta instead of carrying her. She’s an MVP

  Keep in mind Katniss is a young teenager being forced into revolution, rebellion, she’s the hope for the people, her family and district is being threatened with death, she’s in full on survival mode when she never asked for any of this. The last thing on her mind is relationships. She doesn’t even want to think about loving someone because that only makes her more vulnerable than she already is. That gives Snow more access to hurt her if she loves someone else. She’s cold because of the world she lives in. She’s young and can only handle so much pressure, and Gale is too obsessed with getting her to love him instead of seeing her internal struggles. Peeta on the other hand wants to love her for her and help her with those internal struggles. That’s why Peeta is the better pick, and she slowly started to realize that in this movie while they were on the beach; that was their first real kiss.

  Mags literally sacrificed herself. The fog caught up to BOTH of them carrying peeta, if it was just 1 person carrying 1 person they ALL would have died.

  Finnick is very athletic & has great endurance. But since he was carrying Mags, he wasn’t at his full capability. Without her on his back, he could’ve easily outran the fog. She sacrificed herself so he wouldn’t die trying to save her, but also to save Peeta & Katniss(they are the face of the rebellion).

  Finnick’s heartbreak when Mags sacrifices herself gets to me so much when I rewatch. He really thought that if he just kept her alive long enough the rebellion would get her out and she’d live out the rest of her days peacefully in district 13 😢

  Little detail: Haymitch’s  hunger games were the 50th edition…that means it was the second quarter quell and for that edition they doubled the number of tributes…meaning the goverment sent 4 kids from each district…💔

  The people in the back of the room with the weird face mask looking things are called Avoxes.  Remember in the first movie when Gale was proposing they run away and Katniss said "They'd catch us.  Cut out our tongues or worse"  The punishment for speaking against the Capitol is to have your tongue cut out (avox = a-vox, i.e. without voice) and enslaved for life.  Being forced to serve the tributes is.....mild.

  So about Gale he isn’t Katniss’s boyfriend. They are friends and he had a crush on her but she didn’t know at the time. So in the first book she cared about what everyone in district 12 thought because she is awkward and a bit of a prude. When they got back from the games she realizes that Gale wants a relationship but she doesn’t know how she feels. She’s also super traumatized and trying to keep her loved ones safe so that’s not really on the forefront of her mind.
