As you probably know, YouTube alone doesn’t really bring in a huge amount of income for this kind of long-form lore content. I’m doing this mainly because I TRULY love storytelling and lore. Because of that, my dream right now is to BUILD a community of around 1000 members.

A community like that alone would genuinely give me enough support to KEEP the channel running, spend more time creating, and consistently release even higher-quality videos in the future.

So if you enjoy the content and want to help support the channel directly, I’d be incredibly grateful if you considered becoming a member.

► Become 1 of our 1000 CORE MEMBERS here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC3omGC6tssBbHwyZ3gUmrkA/join

Thank you for always being here and helping The Lore keep going deeper.

I think Rher's association with lies/tricks AND truth actually goes hand in hand with something I've been ruminating on for a while. A god of [something], whatever that something is, also must be the god of the lack of that [something]. There's a duality in all of the gods we see.
For example, Gro-goroth. Gro-goroth has the power to destroy people just by showing his form; he can incinerate people with a snap of his fingers. But, conversely, he must also choose to not do that. He chooses to not destroy things. And he has to do this, because if he destroyed everything immediately, then there would be nothing to destroy. Something has to exist for it to be destroyed. That's why he's married to Sylvan--he can't destroy that which doesn't exist, and she makes things for him to destroy. Similarly, he destroys so she has can create; beyond just the idea of making room for things to exist in, in order for things to live, they have to eat, and eating means destroying something else, whether its meat or plants.
Going off of this as well, I think the God of Fear and Hunger can also choose to make people not hungry, or not fearful. And though I don't think she gives this gift loosely, I think there were two people who she gave that gift to: Celeste and her child. Because its implied in the game that Cahara was the one to take the girl into the depths, acting as the one source of kindness in her life. And because gods reciprocate sacrifices, the best thing she could give to Cahara--who is in the depths with her--is making sure that Celeste and her child are always safe and full.
Or maybe she like. Gave them a bunch of save spots so they could save scum their way through life. That would probably be most useful.

01:10:36 Rher, like all Old Gods from the Green Hue, is born not as flesh but as pure concept, nourished under the divine light of that primordial realm. If Sylvian and Gro-Goroth embody the perfect balance between fertility and destruction, then what, exactly, is the balance of Rher?

Let’s return to his symbol. Three interlocking circles form a strange equilibrium. In alchemical tradition, these three circles echo Paracelsus’ Tria Prima: Sulfur stands for spirit and chaos, fiery and volatile. Salt represents the body and matter, stable and grounding. Mercury, meanwhile, is the principle of transformation—the mind in constant flux.

Notice how Rher’s symbol twists toward the upper-right circle, marked by the serpent’s head. Mercury. Transformation. Mind. It aligns perfectly with Rher’s influence in the game: his moonlight doesn’t just burn the flesh — it corrupts the mind, tipping mortals across a threshold into monstrous forms.

In game play, Each character has a Mind bar, representing their sanity and mental balance. If Mind drops to 0 for an extended period of time, the character will begin to lose their humanity. Depending on the circumstances (your playstyle and the events that occur), the character may undergo a complete bestial transformation—turning into a grotesque creature that can no longer be controlled.

This event is described as follows:
"Something is moving inside you... Something primal is trying to get out of your hollow shell... Your body... It's bursting at its seams!"

Per’kele himself explains that Rher’s light reflects the “truth”—that humanity is ugly, no different from monsters. But is that really the truth?

If we borrow from Carl Jung, the answer becomes chillingly clear.

In Jungian psychology, the psyche is often divided into the Self, our primal, shadow aspects and the Ego, the conscious identity shaped by society. The Ego tends to dominate, repressing the raw instincts of the Self. Perhaps Mind bar threshold represents the fragile border between the two: the liminal line between wakefulness and dream, sanity and collapse.

As I’ve argued before, humanity in Fear and Hunger is fundamentally flawed. We are creatures of repression, forever chained by rules, guilt, and social masks. Ego hides our fear, our primal desires, our inner darkness. The only thing keeping us from becoming literal monsters is the strength of our mind. But what happens when that mind fails.

Under the burning light of Rher, the chain breaks. What was buried erupts: fear, hunger, lust, violence—all the truths we hide beneath Ego’s mask. That is the essence of moonscorching.

Here lies the paradox. Rher’s proclamation is both lie and truth. Yes, humans hide monstrous instincts beneath the surface. But no, that is not the whole of humanity. Ego, culture, and higher ideals are also real. Rher, however, twists perception so that only the shadow is revealed.

He shows the shadow, but never the whole. His power lies in ambiguity, in the delicate equilibrium between truth and lie, dream and waking, reality and illusion. This is why one of his titles is the Trickster God. But perhaps an even more fitting name emerges when we peel back the layers: Rher, the God of Half-Truth.

it's interesting that the agents of rher never use violence, the child must be willingly given for some reason.

In the Skin Bible of Rher, Rher’s symbol is replaced by an illustration of the three phases of the moon:
• 🌑 New Moon: represents concealment, origin, the unformed.
• 🌘 Waning Moon: symbolizes division, separation, doubt, and inner conflict.
• 🌕 Full Moon: signifies enlightenment, eruption, and full manifestation.

→ These three lunar phases directly correspond to the three stages of spiritual or conscious transformation that occur when one comes into contact with the invisible and the unexplainable, a recurring theme in Fear and Hunger. They also parallel the process of Moonscorch.

A particularly notable detail is that Rher’s eye is placed precisely at the third phase — the full moon — which likely symbolizes that Rher’s power and influence are closely tied to this phase. In gameplay, this is the time when rituals, effects, and dangers associated with Rher reach their peak.

The “Man in Dreams” flyer contains the line:

“Over the past week or so, since the full moon, people all over Prehevil and its neighbouring settlements see this face in their dreams, every night.”
This implies that the influence of Rher and his servants grows especially strong during the full moon.

Rher’s power is heavily linked to the mind and the spirit, and the full moon is traditionally the time when the boundary between the material and spiritual worlds is at its thinnest.

Similar to the appearance of the Moonlight Boy in Berserk, at each full moon, when the boundary between the dream world and reality overlaps, allowing him to manifest in a perfect form.

All of this is far from mere coincidence.

The Sun God sees us during the day while we behave
Rher the Moon God sees us at night where we have darkness to give us the illusion that we are hidden, thus the opportunity to show how we act in those shadows

Are you (the reader of this text) more true during the day, or the night? Even I (the writer of this text) am ultimately unsure of myself.
