I agree that the Golden Throne isn't meant to be a trap. Especially with Gro'goroth being a rather open-minded deity, it seems to me that it was an attempt at giving mortals a glimpse into how the Old Gods see the universe, and experience some of what the Old Gods feel. Sylvian left because she felt unloved by humanity, Rher was incredibly fearful of humanity ascending to the point of creating Pocket-Cat to steal children who have the potential to ascend to the same heights as the Old Gods. With these facts in mind, the Throne could be a gift from all three of the Old Gods to mortals that allows them to ascend to the same heights depending on the mortal. I think that last caveat is the most important, an open-minded enough mortal (Gro'goroth) could probably ascend to the Old Gods if they sat on the Throne, they would also have to have an incredible amount of love for creation (Sylvian), the third quality is hard to pin down since Rher doesn't really have a positive quality aside from revealing the truth that lies beneath flesh, so I think that whoever sits on the Throne would have to be honest to a fault, to the point of not having secrets or any modicum of deceit within themselves, thus not have a truth that lies beneath their flesh.

By mantling all three Old Gods and sitting on the Throne, a mortal could ascend to the heights of the Old Gods. Part of me thinks that this is also the requirements to become the King of Ma'habre, which is why the New Gods say that the King has not yet been born, someone who has the qualities of the Old Gods in equal measure. Part of me also thinks that the soul of the mortal matters, specifically the Ancient soul. It would require very specific circumstances before it could be achieved, circumstances so rare that it's nearly impossible. Considering that Miro used Jungian Psychology with the concept of Conscious and Unconscious minds in F&H 2 Termina, and references the alchemical concept of the Union of Opposites, I think this theory holds water.

Personal theory regarding Ragnvaldr, spoilers for his S ending. Ragnvaldr potentially also ascended after his S ending, as he is referred to as 'The God of Ultra Violence' through his crusade against the monsters of the world. I don't have any other evidence to support this, but its a thought I keep coming back too.

Legarde is my favorite character in the series, the living definition of " war crimes are based if it's to ascend"

This is why I love ambiguity in video games. There's a thousand answers for a single question and there's so much evidence for all of them. Maybe New Godhood is a trap, maybe it's humanity's folly, maybe they were doing it wrong as evidence by the God of Fear and Hunger... or perhaps it's a single story with multiple timelines crashing in on each other because true Godhood is simply beyond Fear and Hunger.

I really love your idea that the ascencion of new gods was not a trap but a gift from the old gods !
Many people are convinced that it had always been a trap from the old gods to keep humans from rising too far above their station, but the idea that it actually was a gift, just humanity IS that flawed as to fuck it up is... really fucking good!!

I love this part of content creating, sharing your views on subjects that others would think otherwise is so good!! Thanks for your hard work, and good job with the vid 👏👏👏

I see the New Gods as a critique on parts of human nature and the systems they create. A big reason why things keep looping around and around and around again and again is because the type of people who would willingly become gods and think that it would be a good idea are all the same type of person at the end of the day. It's why being a New God is a game you win by not playing. The irony of Le'Garde saying "I'm different" before he becomes the next link in the world's stupidest chain is that if being a New God could genuinely bring the change the world needed, then it would have happened already. Le'Garde certainly did things in a unique way but I see that as if anything embracing the system more rather than doing something different because he was just copying what other people did. If this was a project to draw a picture of his family, he showed up with four pictures of other people's families, none of which he was related to. He does get what he thinks he wants when he becomes the Yellow King and is the strongest New God by far but none of that power matters because he can't effectively use it for the change he wants. Becoming a New God is like seeing someone try to lift themselves up into the air by grabbing and pulling up their own ankles, and thinking it was an issue of technique.

You know I hadn't put together that lizardmen and blights were related but now it makes sense why there are blind dinosaurs.

I agree that I don't think the Throne is intended as a trap. I think it's another example of just how much the Old Gods do NOT understand the way mortal minds work... As far as Gro-goroth and Sylvian are concerned, anyway.

The Throne DOES indeed get a person closer to the way Old Gods work. They gain total dominion over something their soul resonates with. That would, indeed, be likely how the Old Gods see godhood.

Except Rher. I don't think it makes sense for Rher to allow that, given how active he is in his opposition to ascension.

I think it's possible that, yes, the limitations of our minds as mortals could be one reason we can't fully reach Old God status and get bottlenecked as New Gods. I do, however, want to lend credence to a new interpretation of "the throne is a trap":
The Throne was a gift from the Old Gods that was sabotaged by Rher to prevent true ascension.
In the same way Rher moonscorches people to bring out their worst insecurities, Rher could have also sabotaged the Throne so that anyone sitting on it becomes obsessed with their dominion rather than becoming its embodiment.

50:16 i Also think that the Snake is tied on how le' garde returned to the world, by casting aside his skin like a snake, and to the christian tradition and their general dislike for snakes, symbolizing absolute evil.

I saw the golden throne as something that make something pure (it's a pure metal) like how the old gods are pure in what they are. Humans are more then just what their soul is and that cause issues when ascending. The girl is pure in what she is, fear and hunger. The lizard people are pure instinct as a referance to the idea of the lizard brain. For Humans when they ascend what their soul is, is made into a New God however the extra that made them up also becomes more and tries to recombine which cause them to rot from the inside. The Old Gods could not understand the idea of the extra being there as they are pure, this is what caused it to be a issue in the first place. This is the reason the New Gods get weaker and All-mer rotted into the sulfur one. This is how I saw it anyway. Looking forward to part 3, and learning more.
