Scorecard time. Which of these have you said out loud, word for word?<br><br>1. "It saves money."<br>2. "It's just one small project."<br>3. "They can't take it away from me."<br>4. "It's just a hobby."<br><br>Reply with your number. If you've said all four in the same week, you're among friends.<br><br>And if there's a fifth excuse I missed, drop it below.

Running your own server is about freedom, control and finding use for a beloved old gaming rig :)

My resonnement is as follows<br>1. It's to learn and understand<br>2. I don't trust my data not to be used by large companies<br>3. It brings me pleasure to get things working myself<br>4. I believe it makes me a better developer, knowing how the underlying parts work.

At the current moment, the most important answer is that I OWN IT. Not Google, Apple, Meta, Amazon, ME it’s mine and they can’t take away what’s on it.

I just like my stuff neatly in a rack honestly. I'll sometimes just admire it with a beer in my hand and relax to the humming of my gear.

The scripts of this channel are beautifully written. I love this channel and I’m not even a developer. ❤

I’m 70, so what does that make me? Yes, it’s for the pleasure, and because, I can.

I like being in control of my stuff, I’m a consumer that values ownership, I don’t pay for any subscriptions, and I’m a creator.

Hear me out.... ad free subscriptions monthly price × 12 months vs the 12 month average electricity bill spike from not having it... some of us aren't using enterprise hardware... my lab runs on a NUC with a 7th gen.... but my storage is on a ts140 with a xenon

My server is still just an old laptop, and I have a 20 TB external hard drive for storage. Very crude set up, but I get to tinker with it, and it OBJECTIVELY saves me money.
