  I’m a dark skinned sister who took a solo trip to Punta Cana in 2016. &nbsp;I was struggling with major depression after the death of my brother. &nbsp;It never dawned on me that I would experience the blatant racism that I experienced from the very first night I landed there.<br>I stayed at what I thought was an upscale all inclusive resort with my own pool or what they called a swim out room just so I didn’t have to share space with anyone if I didn’t feel up to it.<br><br>My first night I reserved a table in one of the restaurants. &nbsp;I walked up to the hostess podium. &nbsp;The hostess looked up at me but said nothing. &nbsp;I told her I had a reservation and she walked away still saying nothing to me or even acknowledging me. &nbsp;<br>I was shocked! &nbsp;A white couple walked in and lined up behind me. &nbsp;She came back to the podium, said good evening to them and proceeded to seat them.<br><br>That was the beginning of the worst travel experience I have ever had. &nbsp;Each day things got progressively worse.<br>One kind staff member apologized for the bad treatment and told me I was having problems because I looked Haitian.<br><br>I felt totally robbed! &nbsp;I paid $5000+ for a week to be mistreated and ignored. &nbsp;NEVER AGAIN!😡😡😡

  i am black but im light skinned with light eyes and can pass for several different ethnic groups. my first time in the dominican republic was an eye opener. the men figured i was dominican for sure and when i told them i was a black canadian not black dominican they were in shock that i considered myself black and offended that i considered them black. where i come from if you are of black heritage of any percentage you are black. &nbsp;a few days later i went on an excursion and the tour guide went on a helluva rant. he explained the whole racial history of the dominican republic and strongly renounced dominicans tendency to deny their afro heritage. he then went off on samy sosa and his &quot;transformation&quot; lol. i will never forget that tour guide he was awesome and i thank him for educating us that day

  Exactly, Belgium goes under the radar. &nbsp; For example, many people are familiar with the Rwanda g-cide in 1994 between the Tutsis and Hutus. &nbsp;But people never mention the part Belgium played in that tragedy. &nbsp;The Belgian colonizers, for some reason, favored and elevated the Tutsis over the Hutus, which caused resentment from the Hutus. &nbsp;The resentment came to a boiling point in 1994. &nbsp;<br><br>I acknowledge that the above is a simplification.

  The way my nervous system is set up…I am only traveling to African or Caribbean nations. I will never buy Korean skin care products. 👸🏽

  As a Black person, I have no desire to travel to and spend money in any nation that does not accept us. I was unaware of the pervasive bigotry against Haitians and other Black people when I traveled to the Dominican Republic a few years ago. I didn&apos;t go back. Why you would choose to travel to those nations as a Black person has always baffled me.

  My former Canadian student mysteriously died at a university dorm in Poland. Manny was Indian-Canadian, wore a turban and was excited to be in med school. A few months into his first semester, he &quot;fell&quot; out of his dorm window. Rest in peace, Manny 🍁
