Art vs finance. I understand the studio's decision, with an inflated budget you must give in to what the majority of audiences want. Putting the real ending on the DVD was brilliant. I remember watching both and wanted the main character to live for a part 2.

The fact that Warner Bros. would think that an ending that eliminates the possibility of a sequel would be better than leaving it open for one is wild. But Hollywood always finds a way to have their cake and eat it too. They got their ending, they made the money and now they're (possibly) getting their sequel.

All this time and I never knew the alternate version on the DVD was the original vision. I thought that was a better and more hopeful version. This sent me on a "learn everything I can about this movie and book". I bought and read the book then watch both Vincent Price and Charlston Heston versions. This brings clarity for my original attempt.

This was one of the first movies I saw after reading the book and I feel a little pretentious saying the book was way better than the movie. It shouldn't even be called "I Am Legend" because its not the same story.
