Mentioned the exhaustion of “there’s always laundry “ to therapist. He asked, “Do you celebrate after a load?” No, dude! “Then celebrate! You finished something!”

When I'm shopping and I see something I want, I ask myself if I 'want to take care of it' rather than just 'have' it. It keeps me mindful of the mental burden of too much stuff. Cuts down on my impulse shopping.

My therapist told me that a lot of times, we keep suffering because it feels safe. We know it is bad and it hurts, but because it's what we know, it feels safer. Doing better means facing the unknown

I just want you to know if you ever see this... Actually for anyone who does see this... In the time it took to listen to this podcast... 48:14 life-changing minutes... I have transformed a space that most people would have written off. Years of shameful , clutter and mess that has been holding me back for longer than I care to admit, in almost every possible way, has been changed in a way that I can't even describe. I am crying as I type this , because I have realized so much in the past hour , about myself , my trauma, my life , just everything.. so much so that it is hard to find the words to really express my sincere and heartfelt gratitude for the work that you do. You may not be a doctor but you have changed my life more than any doctor ever has or ever will . You are truly an angel. And to anyone reading this... If I can do it, trust me when I say that you can too. My journey is far from over... but thanks to this podcast and your unique way of making people feel seen and understood and just your knowledge and overall delivery ... I have made real progress to changing my life. Thank you .❤

Oh goodness, let me just start by saying your title “Why Clutter Helps (and What to Do About It)” hit me so hard in the soul that I had to sit myself down and whisper “Luise, breathe, this creator is about to explain your entire personality in one podcast episode” because wow, the accuracy, the emotional exposure, the gentle slap of truth. Watching you dive into the psychology of clutter instantly reminded me of the time I tried to declutter my hallway closet and ended up sitting on the floor holding a single sock like it was a long lost friend while whispering “how did you get here, sweetheart” and realizing I had accidentally organized nothing except my feelings. And as you explained how clutter can actually support creativity and productivity, I swear I felt my inner voice go “hold on, Luise, this means your chaotic desk is not a problem, it’s a lifestyle choice” while another part of me whispered “finally, scientific validation.” Honestly, the way you communicate this topic with such warmth and clarity made me rethink my entire approach to daily tasks because if clutter can help, then surely I can stop apologizing to guests for the pile of “important things I’ll deal with later” that has now achieved the structural integrity of a small mountain. At one point I even caught myself cheering for a messy drawer like it was competing in a talent show, whispering “yes, darling, hide those mysteries, protect your secrets.” Whew, what a journey. You’ve inspired me, cracked me up, and made me feel deeply seen in the most chaotic, comforting way possible, which is exactly the emotional decluttering I needed today.

The hardest emotions for me to face when decluttering are the fantasy self items telling me that I am not that person I thought I was/ could be. And to come to terms with the fact that I just cannot do all the hobbies while I am caring for a toddler - and that just hurts a little bit. Once you get there, though, I usually feel a sense of immense relief 😅

I cannot believe just how much this episode has hit me in the feels. It has exposed my fear of being imperfect. I had to be perfect my entire life, first as a child, then as a wife, then as a health professional. I love to craft and be creative, but the fear of making a mistake can be paralyzing. It’s lead me to decision paralysis also. Thank you for your kind encouragement and sensitive approach to clutter. ❤

"This is the episode for me!!!" I am almost 80 and just don't have the strength or energy that I used to have. I'm hoping to have our teenage grandkids over some this summer to help load up stuff and to take to a donation center. They would be a blessing, and they both loved to help us!!! This week I did clean out three drawers and now they are CLEAN and organized!!! A little progress!! I'm going to go through my thermoses on the kitchen counter and exchange them for drinking glasses that we seldom use anymore and are taking up space in our cupboard. Crafter...yes! It's hard to let go of beautiful papers that I know that I won't be able to use anymore because of time and other crafts that I'm more into in this stage of life! Time and ability are slipping away and that is difficult to face. But I get enjoyment out of my new craft projects, so I need to let go of beautiful old paper!!! (I have donated about 1/3 of it already!) Keeping it has "made me feel that I still can accomplish all of these craft projects!" Thanks for all of your logical ideas, Cass!
