Some of us have never stopped buying CDs (since the 80s) and have never streamed music. I've been fortunate to live in cities like SF, Seattle, and LA where new and used CDs have always been available.

I am in group #3. Collected vinyl in the 70’s and 80’s. Then collected CD’s in the 90’s. Sold all my vinyl in the early 2000’s. Never stopped listening to my CD’s. In 2026 I am still collecting CD’s from thrift stores and garage sales.

My wife surprised me with a CD player for my birthday in 1985 and I bought my last vinyl. I sold and gave away my vinyl and donated my turntable. For years I used a BluRay player with a DAC and it works great.

I never stopped owning cd players. Once cassettes were done, cd was the format i never turned my back on. I got back into vinyl, but the cd is a forever media to me

I started buying CDs again around the middle of last year and canceled my Spotify subscription because I realized I didn't love it or feel any real connection to it anymore. It had just become stale.

So, I decided to buy a DAP (Sony Walkman A45) with some decent IEMs, along with a pair of Bluetooth earbuds for the gym. I also picked up a nice Harman Kardon FL 8300 CD player paired with an SMSL DAC, and I've been enjoying music again. Instead of doom-scrolling through songs on my phone, I've been listening to full albums from start to finish.

Before this, I had been collecting vinyl since around 2018, but I got tired of paying so much for records. The last straw was RSD, with all the limited-edition album releases.

When companies try to discontinue physical media, it creates an opposite effect that makes physical media more popular since you own the music and don’t have to worry about losing your ownership of your music collection! CDs are now getting a resurgence at big box stores like Walmart and Target because of their small shelf space and easy for younger people to get into! I see brand new CD albums and players in stores, meaning there’s a popular demand for music fans.
