People will remain the same until the pain of remaining the same becomes greater than the pain of change.

“…the answer isn’t to push harder, it’s to pause - and look within.”
Great message!

Yes, James Clear’s book Atomic Habits specifically stresses shifting one’s identity to change one’s habits

This talk is about what actually makes change stick—especially for high-achieving people who’ve already tried everything. If that’s you, I’d love to know what resonated. 💛

The video is truly mind-awakening. Sometimes, we are not afraid of change; we are simply afraid of letting go of an older version of ourselves—a version we fought so hard to build.

"You're not stuck; you're just loyal to an old story."

I love the mindset shift. From “I’m trying to be” to “I am”. That’s what’s missing

This is so true… I have a friend, who’s always like: „look, I bought new trekking shoes, I’m a hiker!” or played a guitar a couple of times and learned 2 chords „I’m a musician”. And it always was so silly for me, naive and childish even. But apparently he did something right, because after a couple of years he is the one playing in a band and doing public gigs, and I still look at my piano and wish I could play ;/
I always felt like I know too little to call myself anything. And that’s the hardest part to break through.

The shift from "I'm trying to be a runner" to "I'm a runner" really resonated with me. I ran a half marathon last month, but looking back, I don't think I ever actually made that identity shift. I just gritted my way through training as someone "trying to get into running," not someone who already was one. That probably explains why it felt so much harder than it needed to be. Going forward, I want to actually claim "I'm a runner" and see how that changes things, maybe the next race won't feel like such an uphill battle. Thanks Dr. Foster for putting language to something I didn't even realize I was missing!!
