I was in this movie when I was 18, one of the fire fighters working next to the Dad. This was filmed on the Gold Coast with Wasp Creek Fire Brigade supplying the Vehicles and us fire fighters. I have searched for this since then and until now, no luck. Thanks for posting!!!!

Upper Beaconsfield is not north of Melbourne. It is south east of Melbourne. The fire went right over my mums house in the next suburb of cockatoo. My mum had literally 5 minutes to evacuate. Amazingly the house survived but all the houses around it burnt to the ground. A young couple who lived up the road died in their car. Firefighters also died that day. Princess Diana planted a tree afterwards at the kindergarten where the teachers hid all the kids under the floorboards. The tree is still there.

Never travel uphill when a fire is below you. That's one of the "watch-out" situations that firefighters talk about. Fire travels much faster uphill than it does downhill.

I knew a lady and her then-husband who had their house burnt down in this fire, she was left with a horrible memory of seeing people burn, etc. They survived, but it left a mark on both of them for the rest of their lives.

I can not believe any mother would take her children to a wildfire for any reason. I mean even if you know nothing of wildfires the name alone would scare most. Straight up common sense

Wow, my wife pointed this doco out to me, as she saw Jane towards the end. Jane was one of her best friends. She lived in Pakenham. Jane, unfortunately, passed away right before covid. ☹️ She had a massive cardiac arrest in her home and hit her head on the corner of the kitchen bench as she went down. Her boy, Daniel, wasn't home when she passed. RIP, Jane. ☹️

What you didnt mention about the 1983 Australian Ash Wednesday fires was that the Humidity was extremely low and the hot winds that blew in were 90 to 100 KPH (55 to 60 MPH) this was the driving factor far more than the extreme heat was. In any warm weather those conditions make fire unstoppable and extremely fast travelling. This doco probably should have contained less recreation and more of the real footage to show just how bad the conditions were. Stock footage of some firefighters performing a low intensity hazard reduction burn made to represent these fires just doesnt cut it.<br>But thank you anyway.
