It was my first sportboat whit E 50.
Copy of the Smuggler. Handcrafted of a man in the iland in Sweden where i gow up. The motor was coverted to electric starter fom a Volvo B 1800 motor. It was in 1983 an i payed 120 $ for it. Her name was Annabelle and painted Califoria yellow. The engine allways eat the middleplug some weeks appart. Thats amemory for life. ❤😅

I’ve seen that style of pins that hold a water pump in like that before, but it went all the way through and it was one pin so I don’t see a issue with the pins, especially when you switched it to stainless

After working on a few old outboard engines I'd never waste my time or money unless it was a vintage engine of importance

When doing a compression test you should remove all of the plugs then test each cylinder at wide open throttle

Nice! Don't call it a failure yet. Piston don't show signs of blowby. The coating damage you have, don't seem contain scratches in the compression area, that leak the compression/ combustion pressure past the piston rings. The damages in the coating can be chamfered carefully with die grinder and a "stone bit". Then the coating don't start peeling or scratch the piston. People do port and make new holes even to coated cylinders, just chamfer the edges and it will be fine.

It’s been a while since I’ve seen the 1st video, but was the fuel system cleared? Was the throttle linkage linked and synced? Sometimes cheap automotive pressure gages do not do well with smaller motors since smaller motors have much less compression numbers. If the block is too far gone, have you checked if they’re are any good ones for sale on eBay or such? It’s really sad for you to call it quits after this much love was put into it! But your decision is understandable as well.

lots of patience and perseverance with the old motor, yes you should have checked its internal conditions first also bearing in mind that parts for these old junk are almost impossible to find. What is your name then ? bye Augusto fro italy

The cylinder is still usable!! dont junk it just yet. I would do a hone and put new rings in and it should be good! You have to remember 2 strokes are NOT picky about perfect seal surfaces and such like 4 strokes do. It can still run very well even with a bore like that, I would at least sand the high spots down so the rings dont catch it but the ball honing should do that well anyways. Ive repaired many outboards and you be surprised how screwed up the bores or piston looks yet still run like nothing has happened. 2 strokes are very forgiving for its conditions as long as you dont see major blow by on the piston which yours has NONE of so it is running well.
