  Saw Chad in a semi small venue in NYC...late 80's. He was so humble that the door guy asked him where he was going...He responded I'm with the band

  Chad brought and continues to bring the good energy and is as dialed in as it gets . Part of that is his ability to listen and react simultaneously with his band mates to (as he said) make them sound better and more importantly making the music as good as it can be.

  Saw him on FZ's 1981 and 1984 tours, and 1983 with Holdsworth. 40+ years later, he looks and sounds great.

  Frank also looked for people who were super attentive, not just ''with it'', alert, responsive, but people who become super focused and quiet when the next part of the thought went somewhere else. You can just watch Chad and see how free he is when describing things in his wheel house but when the discussion turns to any level of serious or someone else's perspective he becomes very still and focused, like he is all ears. That's a trait Zappa sought out because it's in all of them. I think I would call that musically respectful, or communicative respect. It shows that they really are there for the love of it, not of themselves, not ego.

  I`m not a drummer but when I saw/heard Chad play a drum solo at a Zappa show, he did some beat that blow my mind. I`ll never forget it though I can`t remember what it was or what he did, I was just floored at the time when I watched. Also, seen all the greats in live shows but that one moment was quite memorable.
