Everyone from Eddie Van Halen to Pat Methany has been quoted as feeling the same way about Allan Holdsworth that Frank Gambale does. Allan himself was the only one who seemed not to know that he was the most brilliant guitar player in modern history.

Frank is a true teacher. That’s so cool that he tried to cheer AH up. Attempting to help him realize that he had something indescribably special.

I'll never forget one of the last times i'd seen Allan live. I was standing on line to see his 2nd set at Iridium in NY, and Allan comes walking down the street. Rather than directly going to the front of the line to walk inside the club... He stands in the line with everyone else. We all had to let him know it was OK for him to cut the line and go in. That's a true English gentleman. Still missed!

Even if the artist is highly skilled I can often deconstruct how they are playing something in my "mind's ear". Not so Frank Gambale or Allan Holdsworth. I throw up my hands and am grateful to have just been alive when such genius is presenting.

I love Frank so much! Allan being my favorite guitar player. Them together on Truth in Shredding was absolute peak Jazz Fusion.
