The whole Ralph situation showed just how much Carmine valued Johnny...there was a limit on his loyalty

To be fair Carmine did say he would tax Ralph $200,000. Carmine didnt want to risk a war over a stupid joke

Johnny and Carmine were part of what made the Sopranos a great show.

If it was Carmine’s wife who’d been insulted, I wonder if he would’ve been as calm.

You gotta be dumb to back Johnny sack against Carmine. You wack a boss of his level, Johnny will not back you. He will leave you high and dry and you can explain to the Commission why you took out the boss. Shit would have been ugly.

And in the end Johnny didn't last long as boss because he left his personal feelings get in the way of making money just like Phil did. Carmine knew to not let his personal feelings get in the way of business because at the end of the day if you let your personal feelings get in the way your enemies can export them

John shoulda been named his successor. Carmine just didn't trust him. It ended up creating a pointless war that his family never fully recovered from.

it was a matter of severity. Killing a man off of a joke is crazy. This was one of the things that went away when Carmine died. The old guys knew "we arent making a western" the payment and a severe one was more than adequate. Johnny Sack was being crazy emotional and absurd. Carmine-> Sack -> (not including the middle guy)-> Leotardo was a track of reasonable to unreasonable as well as the sopranos being loosely powered vs the sopranos being able to actually go to war with NY.

Jersey would have never gone to war if carmine was still in charge... they never would have had to. everything would have been fiscal leverage and larger scams.
