When I was a library student, any time I got bored with cataloguing the books in the library of Dalhousie’s School of Human Communication Disorders, I would read them. King George VI’s stammer is more likely related to being left handed and forced to write with his right hand. People who stammer can often sing with no trouble - singing being a right brain attribute and speech being left brain one. Stress would definitely have made it worse.

It's astounding that the British press were able to suppress this story in the UK even while it was being reported in the US and the rest of Europe. With the internet, social media, and the 24-hour news cycle, that simply couldn't happen today.

I am enjoying the documentary very much. However I have a suggestion. Turn the volume of the music down when people are speaking. I prefer to watch without subtitles, but find that I need them, so i feel certain others may too.

Having seen at least two different documentaries, there is a perfectly good argument that Edward was deposed by the Establishment. Sure, he abdicated, but the Establishment made absolutely sure he couldn’t stay on the throne. Normal, every day people were upset when he was pushed off the throne, but you have to wonder how they would have felt if they’d known the truth about his political allegiances in those years before and during the Second World War. Little did even the Establishment know, they had removed a King who would have sold this country down the river if there was some benefit in it for him. On one level I feel sorry for Wallis because she got stuck for the rest of her life with the pathetic, weak fool, but she was every bit as bad in many ways. They were both completely selfish and self centred, only ever concerned with what they wanted. Wallis did try to leave him, on one occasion he threatened to kill himself if she left him, but she didn’t try that hard because she knew she was enjoying the expensive gifts, the jewels and so on, he was giving her. The Government did absolutely the right thing in removing him from the throne. The pair of them deserved each other.

The fabulous Crystal Palace, which housed the Great Exhibition of 1851, was the brainchild of Prince Albert, consort of Queen Victoria. ❤

Principled and loyal are not the two words I would have used to describe Wallis . More like selfish and unfaithful after all she cheated on her second husband and Edward .

There were three years in British history when there were three kings. 1016 had Aethelred the Unready, Edmund Ironside, and King Canute. 1483 had Edward IV, Edward V (in the tower with this younger brother Richard so never had the opportunity to take the throne), and Richard III. Then 1936 had George V, Edward VIII, and George VI.

George VI was not the first British monarch to assume the throne while his predecessor still lived. William and Mary reigned during the life of James II. Henry VI lived through the first reign of Edward IV who also lived during the restoration of Henry VI. Richard II lived for a few months after Henry IV claimed the throne. Edward V presumably lived for a while in the Tower while Richard III reigned.

Principled is a word I would not have used in describing Wallis. If she were principled, she would never have subjected her husband to the role of cuckold. If Ernest were complicit in his wife's affair with Edward tp climb the social ladder, then they both deserved the consequences.
