Poor Walsingham bankrupted himself and worked himself to death, perhaps literally! In return, he suffered Queen Lizzie's tantrums, had his loyalty questioned by his monarch because he's a puritan and even had his daughter's wedding delayed because the queen was jealous of said daughter's love match. When he died, his funeral had to be done hastily and basically in secret due to him owing money to so many people because he spent all his wealth funding England's spy network. He had no regrets though, his nemesis Mary Stuart was beheaded, the Spanish Armada was foiled, Elizabeth Tudor was never assasinated and England never reverted back to Catholicism.

For Francis Walsingham, its all worth it.

I am a bit confused by the claims that Mary was considered a Royal at that point, as she had been deposed after her husband Lord Darnley was murdered and she had been raped and forced to marry the Earl of Bothwell, compelled to flee Scotland after two failed Military Campaigns against the Usurpers who placed her young son on the Throne. Elizabeth certainly did not consider her a Peer and only her status as Family afforded her a measure of respect. Elizabeth regarded her as an incompetent who had bungled the entire aftermath of her insufferable adulterous husband's murder by his enemies engineered by Bothwell from whom she sought protection rather than prosecuting as Elizabeth suggested. This same Bothwell who ravished and betrayed her. This should have been made far more plain, she was not a captured Sovereign, but a refugee , and quite the tragic figure overwhelmed by forces she could not perceive or control.

Britian and the USSR are both great at espionage for almost the same reason - - religious wars. One was spiritual and involved Britain, the other was economic and involved the Soviet Union. In both wars, the enemy could be hidden in plain sight

I wonder why they didn't simply build hidden places leading to a tunnel out of the house to a safe place instead of captive priest-holes?

Sir Francis Walsingham is the grandfather of espionage

The execution of Queen Mary definitely undermined the monarchy and enraged the catholic world, making Mary a martyr. Executing any monarch going forward was easier because Elizabeth I did it.

TRUTH you present here: LexisNexis Legal computer HRH Ana-Maria, my bloodline proven Queen Elizabeth 1st Tudor son raised in France King Henri 4th Bourbon both marriages AND bloodline proven Mary Queen of Scots! A house divided! I laugh. I say TRUTH: QE1Tudor in Heaven Yet I had much waited my long suffering ancestor Mary...but no information on her, nothing. So I have begun praying for Mary because Catholic Church has her as a saint. Perhaps she is? Yet, if first she sent to purgatory...no one would realize she needs prayers. I'll keep praying for Mary-- until Heaven (with me since age 2 repeatedly drowned, heavy swing set thick bar laid upon my throat in backyard at Decatur Street Dothan Alabama the neighbor lady screamed in horror, jumped fence, Mrs Joyce my kidnapper ran outside BOTH couldn't lift bar off front of my throat age 2 orphan. Mrs.Joyce yelled," JACK! GET OVER HERE! LIFT THIS BAR OFF ANN'S THROAT! YOU TRIED TO KILL THE BABY! MY SECOND BABY DIED! THIS IS THE ONLY BABY I HAVE TO REPLACE HIM, NORMA'S BABY! JACK! LIFT THIS BAR!". He did, as Opal kept yelling at him, why I remember. Never in heaven did I see my beloved ancestor Mary...yet mom there, JFK there, Maria Romanov there, Charles 1st there, Queen Elizabeth 1st Tudor there. Thanks for your video on my 2 battling beauties! Anne

"People had grown up knowing nothing but the Tudors" -- how scary would that be? They were all psychos who loved the death penalty... and the crueler and more unusual the better
