  Young Frankenstein might have been directed by Mel Brooks but it was written by Gene Wilder. The only fight Gene and Mel got into was about how the movie would be filmed. Gene wanted it filmed in black and white, just like the original movie, while Mel thought it should be in color, to keep up with the modern movies of the day. Gene talked Mel into black and white and the filming got underway. Gene Wilder played tennis with Gene Hackman and he was telling him about the movie and the role of the Blind Hermit. Gene Hackman had never played a comedic role asked Gene Wilder if he would put in a good word to Mel about the part. Gene Hackman wanted no credit for playing the part, he was just happy to have the opportunity to play a comedic role.

  Pandemonium, featuring Tom Smothers and Paul Reubens is another slasher parody from the early 80s. I haven&apos;t seen it in decades, but I remember it being funny when I was in high school.

  The Incredible Melting Man was supposed to be a parody; but it was made into straight horror. &nbsp; Occasional moments of (confusing) comedy remain.

  Back in 1976 (?) I worked with a film crew when I was in art school. During a break we went to someone&apos;s apartment to watch weird short movies. Hardware Wars, Close Encounters of the Nerd Kind, Porklips Now, and my favorite, Barbie Meets GI Joe. I was able to obtain VHS recordings of all but Barbie Meets GI Joe, which I cannot find anywhere, even on line. They all are wonderful and very, very funny. When my two sons were in their early teens showed them to all their friends and created a cult of their own.
