  Old hero were legend they where strong in any situation and never get break in any situation. In 90s to 20s they were human who is  trying to survive and fight back against their struggle. Today(2020-)  hero are sensitive and try to understand themselves ,try to enjoy life.

  What’s been done has been done before and will be done again. The hero’s journey has not disappeared you can still apply it a lot to modern media even jjk and more. People look for hope in times of trials and look for disturbance(subversion) in times of peace and dullness

  in terms of colour pallettes, i’d argue that modern anime colour palettes are more saturated but have less variety. More contrast too as everything now is darker and heavier in aesthetic

  I think the child to adulthood example is more true and powerful than it seems and is strongly related to this shift. In a sense, most of this manga / anime were written to kids, so it’s core relatable to them. Every adult was a kid, so it is somewhat relatable. But every adult learns reality is not so clear as a hero’s story. The world is more complicated than that. At first the stories meant for kids were more and more consumed by young adults and adults. Not that the adults started reading it, the kids who grew up with these stories are more comfortable consuming them in adulthood; we are beyond the “cartoons are for kids” era, that means young adults and adults are waiting to consume new stories and looking for answers for the new presented challenges and complexities of adulthood, and the market is providing that.<br>Frieren is like being nostalgic of highschool, with that gang of friends on daily adventures, but now that time is a memory and the story explores the theme of “what becomes of the hero who’s journey ended? In her case, she still has energy (long life expectancy there!), so she becomes not only the over powered mentor to the younger generation, but could join them on their quest.
