The reason they haven't finished excavating the terracota army and the emperor's tomb isn't just because of pollution. There are also stories of booby traps. More importantly, when the first terracota warriors were uncovered they were still painted from their creation but this paint dried and flaked off when exposed after so many centuries underground. The Chinese want to figure out a way of preserving stuff better before they uncover more.

I think he was trying to find a cure for mortality, Tom. We already have one for immortality.

An entire episode devoted to the history of Tea wouldn't go amiss! From its mythical orgins, production methods, popularisation and eventual globalization.

Toms talking about giant sea monsters and islands of immortal beings and it’s only when he mentions carts of rotten fish that Dominic decides to question its veracity

One interesting fact about the terracotta army is that each face is different, Archaeologists believe the faxes were modeled after workers at the site. A fantastic discovery indeed!

The ‘Great Wall’ tourists are driven to see today is only like 400 years old. The sections of “wall” that the Qin built (the time discussed in this pod) were just mounds of mud brick and tamped earth and they were not located anywhere near the iconic sections of stone wall built by the Ming and “restored” by the Han CCP.

The wall is a Chinese defensive state of mind, a concept, adopted by dynasty after dynasty of “Chinese” ruling cultural groups. Usually built after each group conquered from the north and then turned “Chinese” by adopting the culture, and promptly built their own walls, only to be conquered by the next group from the north that repeated the process of becoming “Chinese” and adopting the defensive wall-building mindset.
