  I grew up in a communist country with no religion. &nbsp;I am not an atheist. &nbsp;After immigrating to the US, I encountered many Christians. &nbsp;Some tried to evangelize and convert me; some distanced me because of my lack of faith. &nbsp;My best friend’s mom Gerri is a devote Catholic. &nbsp;I lived with her for a year during college. &nbsp;Not once during that time she tried to convince me to join her church or attend the mass. &nbsp;She just LOVED me and took care of me like one of her own children. &nbsp;Politics and religion often divide rather than unite us. &nbsp;People like Gerri and Dolly are prime examples of how love, not hate and judgement can have the most profound and lasting impact on people. RIP Dolly, you are a force of good and you lived an extraordinary life!

  There is a lesson here, quit trying to define someone by their political beliefs - be who you are, do your career and life but put your politics to the side. She is proof that you can live a beautiful life of non judgement, kindness, humor and giving without making it political.

  I do miss the days when there was more civility and decorum about politics and religion, where it was considered impolite to discuss divisive issues at the dinner table and where people of opposing parties or beliefs could still be friends. I remember Ronald Reagan&apos;s famous friendship with Tip O&apos;Neill, and Bob Hope and Jimmy Stewart were beloved and respected despite their Republican leanings.

  Dolly Parton first song puppy love at the age of 13, she wrote close to 3000 songs and politics maybe just wasn&apos;t a priority, music was the &nbsp;beautiful roses she gave the world and politics were thorns and tics to her, or something she just wanted to keep out of the interviews. Dolly Parton was humiliated and treated harshly sometimes in interviews for her creativity in being flamboyant and vibrant and how she appeared. Dolly Parton&apos;s intelligence and grace shone brightly and remained on, while the interviewers tried to turn it off with questions about politics. &nbsp;one and only Dolly Parton!

  Dolly Parton understood the POWER OF ART and why that is enough as long as the artist has a CONSCIENCE.<br>Not many do but, she had it IN SPADES. &nbsp;Dolly Parton was that rare thing called a PRACTICAL IDEALIST.
