📖 A promise, made plain: when the Almanac reaches one thousand copies sold, the first one hundred buyers each get a printed First Edition sent to their door, no charge. Some of the hundred spots are already spoke for. The book's at ezracade.com — every claim sourced, same as always. — E.C.

My grandpa probably knew a lot of these things but he passed when I was 4 or 5 years old. I miss my "Grandpap" .

We ate poke salad and eggs my whole childhood. It was my favorite greens! Mom washed it and boiled it three times just like her mom did

Grew up doing all of it! Warren and VanBuren counties in Cumberland mountains in Tennessee. I'm 80 now and my kids butcher hogs, have trap lines, hunt sang, bees, garden, can, etc. Several grand children are following. I still hunt with a flintlock rifle and a wooden bow made of bodock.

My dad was born in 1911 and he told me when he was young he used to split rails all day long from daylight to dark for 10 cents if he was lucky sometimes he would make 12 cents a day

I'm 57 and grew up in the northeast corner of Alabama. I grew up doing many of these things. We butchered hogs and scalded, scraped, and cured the meat. Picked and ate Polk every spring ( still do) Ive split shingles. Collect lye from wood ashes and made soap. Hung leather britches beans up to dry.

My dad knew alot of these. He was raised in Rice Cove, Marshall, North Carolina. That was far back in the Appalachian Mountains. He taught my brothers how to do many of these, but they didn't practice them. Now, dads knowledge is gone, and that's sad 😔.

I miss Polk salet. My grandmother used to make it for me. She would fold it into scrambled eggs. So good! It is one of my favorite dishes.
