  The President of the United States is a BIG target. His safety is serious business. Of course, if something happens to him there are protocols in place. Taking out the President would not slow down the US government.

  The US President is probably the biggest target on the planet.  Fourteen of our Presidents have faced assassination attempts and four were successful, starting with Abraham Lincoln.  I'm sure many more attempts were foiled before they came to fruition.

  No other leader is as big a target as the U.S. president. It all began during the Cold War with the Soviet Union. Nuclear war was always possible so presidential protection and ability to respond was always a top priority

  You can be sure that whatever they tell you about the top speed and max altitude of AF1 it can go faster and fly higher. There are more, and more powerful, defensive systems than we know. It's just basic security practice to downplay capabilities.

  The president is also Commander in Chief of the armed forces. He needs to be aprised of situations worldwide. Its a 24/7 job.
